Each of your teeth is clad in an outer layer of tooth enamel. This hard, mineral substance gives your teeth the requisite strength to bite and chew pieces of food. Yet there are things that can potentially chip or fracture a tooth. Sometimes a minor defect in the tooth enamel doesn’t cause any pain or sensitivity. Yet it can alter the appearance of your smile or result in an uncomfortable surface texture. If you have a tooth with chipped or recently fractured tooth enamel, you should have it examined by our dentist, Dr. Robert Rebert. After a basic assessment of the affected tooth, he will help you understand your treatment options.

In some cases where the defect in the tooth enamel is minimal, the dentist might be able to address it with a cosmetic bonding treatment. This calls for the dentist to apply a small amount of a composite resin material that can be shaded to match the adjacent tooth enamel. The dentist will shape the bond, and then cure it with a special light before trimming it to the proper size.

If you live in the Metairie, Louisiana, region and you have a chipped tooth or otherwise distressed you should call 504-885-7510 to have it examined and treated at Robert Rebert, Jr., DDS.
