What is a “dental sealant”? Also called a fissure sealant, a dental sealant is a special gel that is applied to your teeth and then activated and hardened with a light source. It helps your teeth be harder, stronger, and better protected. Dental sealants can lower your risk of tooth decay by almost 80%! They are designed to improve your smile by protecting your teeth from decay and enamel erosions. With dental sealants for you and your family, your smiles will be better protected from the harmful acids produced by plaque buildup. This will help prevent cavities and other oral emergencies.

It is possible to get sealants at almost any age. When your child is 5 or 6 years old (when they begin to get their first molars) sealants are great option to use to protect their teeth from any damage. According to the Center for Disease Control, children without sealants are three times more likely to develop cavities, as compared to those with sealants! A typical sealant will last for around a decade before it needs to be repaired or reapplied.
